MI:5 for 2015

With the 2015 film schedule already looking a bit bunged with awesome another movie has been announced to be released in December of that year. Mission Impossible 5 will be released in the US on 25th December only 1 week after the release of Star Wars Episode VII, one of the most highly anticipated sequels to ever grace the world of geekdom!

What MI:5 will be about though remains a top secret but all we know is that it will have to be pretty damn epic to face the stiff competition Star Wars Episode VII will bring. It is also unclear whether or not Tom Cruise’s colleagues from Ghost Protocol (Simon Pegg) will be joining him. The Guardian have said:

Cruise, 50, is due to return as master spy Ethan Hunt in M:I5, which is to be directed by Usual Suspects writer Christopher McQuarrie, who previously directed Cruise in the military-cop thriller Jack Reacher. The script will be written by Iron Man 3’s Drew Pearce.

With the somewhat surprising success of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol it is unsurprising that we are getting a 5th installment of the franchise however with such fierce competition in December of 2015 you’d think they would have thought to release it at a different time. This is either sheer arrogance or they truly believe that MI:5 will be able to compete with the juggernaut that is Star Wars.

If you look at it now, Star Wars VII is the most hotly debated and theories films at the moment with rumors aplenty. Mission Impossible doesn’t have the same following and so will not be as debated and theories. It’s competition, at this early stage, already has a leg up. We’ll keep our hopes up for a good film and that is probably what we’ll get but my early guess is that it won’t make as much money as its predecessor simply because it is up against what it potentially going to be the biggest Blockbuster ever!
