Are you a fan of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman? Always wanted to see it on the big screen? Well good news fans, your prayers have been answered. The Guardian posted:

Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman was launched in 1989. This extremely popular series was bound into ten collections. Following Dream of the Endless, also known as Morpheus, Onieros and many other names, the reader got to explore a magical world filled with stories both horrific and beautiful. The series ended in 1996 but only a couple of months ago, Sandman returned to it’s eager audience.

Since it’s creation. The Sandman has always been earmarked for an onscreen adaptation but nothing ever came about. This announcement of Joseph Gordon-Levitt taking up the reigns is welcome news however his role is still a little fuzzy. Many people believed he was taking up the role as Director and actor however Levitt announced on his Twitter page that he was merely a producer at this stage. I have no doubt that he will end up acting in it, and possibly directing, however I can see him acting in it before I can see him directing it.

Gordon-Levitt subsequently tweeted: “I’ve signed on as a producer on Sandman. The rest remains to be seen. Delighted you guys are excited. I am too!” Gaiman, a prolific user of social media, is yet to issue any comment, though his retweeting of Gordon-Levitt’s announcement suggests he approves. If Gaiman is going to be directly involved in the process of making this film then I think that will please the fans and it will also mean that the film doesn’t turn into a complete hash.

Whether you like Joseph Gordon-Levitt or not, I think we have to thank him for getting on board with this film adaptation and putting some momentum behind it. Seeing a really great Sandman film would be a real treat, not just for the fans of the comics, but for people who have not had a chance to get to read the comics too.

    Benedict Cumberbatch for Morpheus

  • Kevin Doherty says:

Although I do believe this will not work and that the books are unfilmable.

It could work for TV as a loose adaptation that is more of an anthology series, telling random stories that involve the endless as peripheral characters.

Oh hell yes!! Cumberbacth would be the first choice by far xD

What about Tom Hiddleston? I think he could be good too, but between the pair of them Cumberbatch has the deeper voice and would sound so cool as Morpheus 😀
